Inspection and Testing certificates
Generally, Inspection and Testing relates to the testing procedures that electricians use to ensure that an electrical installation is working correctly and safe for use before being energised. The test results are recorded and then passed on to the customer in the form of a certificate. In the case of alterations to, or addition of any circuits, notification is then registered with the correct authority, that any work has been undertaken satisfactorily.
Inspection and testing should also be undertaken at regular intervals to check that the installation is safe to use.
All inspection and testing undertaken by Kreo Electrical, is done by qualified Electricians, trained and qualified to at least an Inspector level.
Certificates
There are four main reasons for undertaking and supplying testing & certification.
-
Electrical Installation Certificate (EIC)
This is a certificate to show that any major works have been carried out by a qualified (competent) electrician and the installation has been done to an acceptable standard. It indicates the works undertaken, gives detailed readings of metered measurements and is registered with the necessary authority. The certificate lasts for 10 years for a residential property.
-
Electrical Installation Condition Report (EICR)
These are generally referred to as Periodic condition reports and testing here is done on an existing installation to check that it is still fit for purpose. All electrical installations will require inspection and testing at periodic intervals as they will deteriorate with age, use, possible damage and any additions or alterations by non-competent persons. It is advised that the testing for a domestic property should be undertaken every 10 years.
-
Electrical Installation Condition Report (EICR)/Landlords Certificate
This is the same as the certificate above, except that it is required every 5 years
-
Minor Works
This is a certificate to show that minor alterations have been undertaken and that the work has been done by a qualified/competent electrician, to an acceptable standard. Where necessary, these are then registered with the appropriate authority.
